How Calibrate stands out against local California weight loss coaches
Weight loss isn’t really about willpower: It’s about understanding your own biology and taking strategic action to make lifestyle changes that are sustainable for the long haul. In order to understand what changes will be most impactful for you as an individual—a person with unique genetics, medical history, and day-to-day responsibilities—it can be incredibly helpful to partner with a weight loss coach.
When you join Calibrate, you’ll be matched with a coach who will keep you accountable to the goals you set. They’ll act as your cheerleaders and accountability partners, celebrating your successes and helping you keep your commitments. With their guidance, you’ll be empowered to find solutions to challenges and create a new day-to-day that’s sustainable and enjoyable.
Beyond what you might accomplish with a fitness coach, life coach, wellness coach, or nutrition coach alone, Calibrate accountability coaches will help you learn and comprehend Calibrate’s Four Pillars of Metabolic Health: Food, sleep, exercise, and emotional health. They’ll work with you on:
- Incorporating healthy eating habits into your daily routine. Calibrate is not a diet plan; there is no calorie counting or specific meal plan within the curriculum. Instead, you'll learn how to minimize fast-digesting carbohydrates and replace them with healthy proteins and fats.
- Building healthy habits around sleep, including improvements to your sleep hygiene.
- Finding ways to exercise that you genuinely enjoy and selecting workouts based on your fitness level and health goals.
- Improving emotional health, which creates a direct positive impact on overall health.
You’ll meet with your coach over 15-minute video coaching sessions every other week. In addition to coaching, you’ll work with your Calibrate Medical Team to monitor progress and gain unlimited access to an in-depth curriculum designed by our Expert Council and Clinical Advisory Board.
What is medical weight loss?
The field of medical weight loss is also sometimes referred to as bariatrics—however, most people associate the term “bariatrics” with bariatric surgery. Medical weight loss does not necessarily involve surgery. Rather, medical weight loss is weight loss overseen by a health care or medical professional, a.k.a. medically-supervised weight loss.
When done best, medical weight loss should involve a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of overweight or obesity that’s rooted in science, medicine, and medical research. Any Pennsylvania weight loss program led by a licensed physician who specializes in obesity or overweight is considered medical weight loss.
The guidance of a medical professional is what sets medical weight loss apart from other diets, wellness programs, or weight loss programs. However, it’s important to approach even physician-led programs thoughtfully. Not all medical weight loss programs are research-based, safe, effective, and sustainable. Some programs use medications that are not approved for long-term use, or rely solely upon supplements, appetite suppressants, meal replacements, or unproven dietary recommendations.
Calibrate is grounded in science for sustainable weight loss and metabolic health improvements; the program was designed by a world-class advisory board of leading experts and our members enjoy convenient virtual access to coaching, a medical team, and other resources.
Many medical weight loss programs incorporate a combination of lifestyle changes—such as food, exercise, and behavior—alongside prescription medication. At Calibrate, we ensure that each element of the habit change is research-based and sets our members up for ongoing success while improving their overall quality of life.
Why not invest in coaching alone?
1:1 coaching makes up one important area of our program—but it is far from the only reason why The Metabolic Reset works.
Calibrate is not a diet, meal plan, health coach, or fitness program. Instead, we bring together clinician-prescribed medication and accountability coaching to reset your entire metabolic system. Our approach is based on decades of clinical research in metabolic health fields such as bariatric medicine and endocrinology.
Research shows—time and time again—that traditional diets simply do not work. Why is this? Most diet programs are fairly short-sighted, and they don't address a fundamental underlying determinant of weight and overall health: Your metabolic system.
This system helps inform how your body functions and how it responds to food, sleep, and emotional health triggers that impact weight. When your metabolism is off-balance, you’re left plateauing or yo-yo-ing as your body fights to stay at its set point—the weight that your body naturally settles at.
That’s why at Calibrate, weight loss is geared towards your biology, not your willpower. Calibrate is medical weight loss at its best: We design our curriculum to fit with your life, not the other way around. We work with your insurance provider to make sure you are able to afford your medication and we offer our services at a rate that is attainable for far more Americans than the average medical weight loss clinic.

Calibrate’s Metabolic Reset: How it works
When you join Calibrate, you’ll start with a 30-minute virtual clinical visit where you’ll discuss your lab panels and health history in detail. After a comprehensive review, your clinician will make a recommendation for GLP-1 medication: A class of medication that’s recently been proven the safest and most effective for long-term weight loss and weight management.
GLP-1s prescribed by Calibrate include semaglutide and liraglutide, known under brand names like Wegovy® and Saxenda®, tirzepatide, known as Mounjaro™, and several others. These medications are FDA-approved and work by mimicking the natural GLP-1 hormone your body produces, which targets areas of the brain involved in regulating appetite, cravings, and food intake. It also has an important impact on the management of blood sugar levels.
Next, you’ll be matched with your accountability coach and begin to progress through four levels of learning as you engage with our comprehensive curriculum in the Calibrate app. Online lessons will teach you how to make small tweaks to your food, exercise, sleep, and emotional health habits. You’ll gain confidence implementing these steps by setting goals with your coaching team and tracking your progress in the app.
Throughout your Calibrate program, your team of medical providers will make sure you’re seeing measurable improvements in your health. After your initial 30-minute appointment, you’ll have access to the medical team in the Medical Channel and scheduled medical check-ins through the Calibrate app. You’ll also get lab work done at the start and again at the end of your program to assess your progress on important health indicators like blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
Medical weight loss for CA residents: Key takeaways
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sacramento, CA residents: You don’t need to visit an in-person California medical weight loss center to reach your weight loss goals. No matter where in California you live, you can join Calibrate for as little as $199/month.
Research shows that comprehensive weight loss programs like Calibrate reap the best results. Calibrate members, on average, lose 18% of their body weight. This percentage is considered to be clinically significant because it can lower several risk factors for cardiovascular disease including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes, while also reducing symptoms of depression, arthritis, and sleep apnea.
Importantly, Calibrate is not a “weight loss” program. It’s a metabolic health program that will help you lose weight by making lasting improvements to your overall health and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Where other programs rely on willpower and calorie counting, we focus on healthy inputs for your biology and small, gradual changes to your day-to-day life. The Calibrate program is designed to reset your metabolic system and gives you back control of your weight and your health.
